Independence day and beyond.

What a July it has been!

I decided back in January what I wanted to give myself for my birthday this year...No matter how far I had gotten in paying down the last of my debt, I was going to cash out some of my IRA and pay it OFF.  As it happened, (between work and some birthday monies from my parents) I didn't have to cash out anything...and on July 4th 2012, I made my final payment.

I have never (since heading off to college) experienced what it is like to be debt free as an adult.  The reality of what this means has not really sunk in yet...but it feels so wonderful to have achieved this long standing goal...especially since even just 6 years ago I considered myself the negative debt to worth poster child.  I am so proud of myself!

A few hours later another door seemed to open.  I started to sell my quilted pieces....on etsy, at the gallery, from phone orders...it came in a wave.  Since the start of this month I've sold two quilts and 6 original art works, and over 100 cards.  I'm the featured artist at the gallery this month even getting some lovely press in the local papers.  I'm am simply humbled by this month and the all the love I'm feeling...love from family and friends, as well as appreciation of my work from complete strangers.

And even though I know this pace won't continue (it is high tourist season at the moment), this month will forever be a beautiful moment in my life.

The photo above is from my other birthday wish--to kayak across Lake McDonald in Glacier Park....I think the photo says it all.

Blessings!

I am SO HAPPY FOR YOU~!!! Bravo on all counts, becoming debt free, selling your wonderful art pieces, and creating a kyacking experience for yourself in such a beautiful place. Wow! Wow! Wow!

Now the trick is to stay debt free! I was never so happy than the day our house got paid off completely and we had no car payments either. Of course I am much older than you, but it's something to look forward to! Or maybe you did it young?

I have no doubt that your art will continue to sell. Bravo!!!!

Thanks Lynn! It's true that I have no house payments and no car payments either...(although I don't own either lol!) But still, the plan is to start paying myself now instead of just being the go-between from paycheck to bills. It IS a lovely feeling! (and yes...I know how lucky I am to have gotten here at such a young age).
